It Just Works!
You may be asking yourself why I went back to Synchronet for my BBS system? The short answer is, it works. Winserver is too easy to get corrupt. Once corrupted, Platinum Express refuses to import or export mail, leaving you an island with your telnet client a lifeboat to paddle to get help. Virtual Advanced was nice, but a few quirks made a person go insane when reading long messages. Getting internet e-mail to work wasn't exactly a nice chore either. FTP is an absolute must for me. Weather I do it via another program or via built into my BBS software. Downloads is another issue for me. Downloading and uploading simply did not work for extended periods of time on any DOS Based BBS that relied on netserial, netfoss, netsynch, or any other serial->telnet interface. They all seem to work at first, but then nothing but errors later on. It seems like if you want a reliable form of transfer from a telnet session you need to start with a telnet session and end with a telnet session. While Synchronet may not be the easiest to make look different, it certainly does do the job and allows a bit of flexibility in how you want it to work. Another plus is that there's nothing else as easy to network via QWK networking than Synchronet.
